21 Depression Truth Bombs Nobody Ever Drops

Ever wonder what it feels like? Or wonder whether you're alone?

1. It doesn't make you cry. #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs being so sad that you can't even cry even if you wanted to.

2. Having good days isn't the solution. #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs when you have one good day, people assume you are cured and should be better now. But that's not how it works.

3. Success (or lack thereof) has nothing to do with it.  #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs how you can achieve great things and still feel like a total failure!

4. It distorts your perception of reality.  The glass isn't half empty or half full...it's broken and leaking everywhere... #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs

5. It really, really distorts your perception of reality. #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs observing your life.
6. Coming out and saying you have it is almost as difficult as actually having it#TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs when you deny you're depressed.

7. Treating it makes you feel guilty. #theworstpartofdepressionis when your family has to spend money on your treatment and you are not able to pay them back yet.

8. It destroys friendships for reasons having nothing to do with friends... #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs cancelling on plans last minute because you can't bring yourself to facing life

9. ...At which point this conundrum sets in#TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs feeling completely alone and isolated but being too down to socialise and make plans.

10. Trying to explain it makes you feel like a whiner. #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs is when people think you're dramatizing how bad you truly feel inside.

11. "Just snap out of it" is a line that's all too familiar. #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs that everyone thinks it's a choice to be depressed.

12. Getting through your daily routine feels like a Sisyphean task. 
#TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs when simple tasks like getting out of bed, going out, eating, sleeping or showering become a mission

 13. It takes a very long time to treat. #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs thinking one day you are finally starting to be okay and literally the next hour you're back to square one.

14. Even with all the information out there, it's still stigmatized. #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs not the stigma -- but the stigma prevents people from addressing it effectively, or seeking help.

15. It physically hurts.  #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs people don't realize it also has physical symptoms: aches, fatigue, appetite, back pain, etc.

16. Treating it doesn't make it go away completely. #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs You can be on the right medication, exercise regularly, have a great sleep schedule, and still be depressed.

17. It's hard, if not impossible, to access your core desires and values because of your biology. #TheWorstPartOfDepression Is having the drive and ambition to get stuff done, and the brain chemistry that wastes your whole day.

18. People almost always don't know how to respond to it.
 #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs the people around you being selfish and taking it personally.

19. Religion can be an ally, but it can also be an enemy. #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs someone telling you to pray it away!

20. Life doesn't stop life-ing when you're depressed. #TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs it's hard enough dealing with regular things. Throw in death, loss, guilt, pain, responsibility, illness....

21. The best part of the day is when you're not conscious. 
#TheWorstPartOfDepressionIs not understanding exactly how deep it goes, and how bad it gets, until you experience life without it.



But there is hope.
